Le Havre, a nice northern French city which name means "the haven"…
Le Havre is located in North Western France, between the English Channel and the Seine river estuary. In the region of Normandy, which was an inspiration for many impressionist artists.
Most of the Le Havre territory was bombed during the Second World War, being completely destroyed. Some of the oldest buildings are still standing, such as the Graville abbey towers over the Seine river estuary and the chapel of Saint Mickael of Ingouville from the 15th century. The city started to be rebuilt after the war. Its center was listed by UNESCO in 2005. it is the first sample of modern architecture in Europe to be listed by UNESCO. The renown museums include the Fine Arts Museum which houses the second most important collection of impressionist artwork in France (the first one can be found in the Orsay Museum in Paris).
